Benjamin Golub

Career
Golub received a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from the California Institute of Technology in 2007. He earned his PhD in Economics from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2012.
From 2013 to 2015, he was a Junior Fellow at the Harvard Society of Fellows, followed by a faculty position at Harvard University's Department of Economics. He served as an Assistant Professor from 2015 to 2019, and later as an Associate Professor.
Since 2021, Golub has been a Professor in both the Economics and Computer Science departments at Northwestern University.
Research
Golub’s research is centered on the economics of networks. He is particularly known for his work on social learning models, such as the DeGroot model.
His research explores:
- The influence of network structure on learning quality
- Polarization effects caused by homophily in social networks
- Contagion and systemic risk in financial networks
In recognition of his contributions, he received the 2020 Calvó-Armengol International Prize for outstanding research in social interaction mechanisms.
